Mgr. Henri Delassus (April 12, 1836 – October 6, 1921)
Born at Estaires in northern France, Henri Delassus was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Cambrai in 1862. He became chaplain of the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille in Lille in 1874, and that same year took ownership and direction of the Semaine religieuse de Cambrai, which he edited for four decades as a bastion of Catholic integralism against liberalism, Freemasonry, and modernism. A disciple of Louis de Bonald, Joseph de Maistre, Donoso Cortés, and Blanc de Saint-Bonnet, he was elevated to the domestic prelature by Pope Pius X in 1904, made a protonotary apostolic in 1911, and received an honorary doctorate in theology from the Faculty of Theology of Lille at the request of the Roman Court. His magnum opus, La Conjuration antichrétienne (1910, 3 vols., 1,350 pp.), received a personal letter of congratulation from Cardinal Merry del Val on behalf of Pope Pius X. He died at Saméon on October 6, 1921. His funeral was held at the Cathedral of Lille.
His principal works include L’américanisme et la conjuration antichrétienne (1899), Le problème de l’heure présente (1904), La Conjuration antichrétienne (1910), and La Question juive (1911), the last being a pamphlet of extracts from La Conjuration antichrétienne issued separately with ecclesiastical approbation (Nihil obstat, January 9, 1911; Imprimatur, January 10, 1911).
